Terma A/S Strategic-Technological Analysis

In the context of Europe’s push for defence strategic autonomy, Denmark’s Terma A/S stands out as a multifaceted defence and aerospace supplier. Founded in the wake of World War II, Terma has grown into a global company owned by a Danish foundation[1]. Its product lines – from shipborne radars to satellite components – span key military and dual-use domains. The company’s footprint across NATO and EU markets, and its role in collaborative R&D projects, make it a bellwether for how European industries can replace external suppliers and bolster collective deterrence. This analysis examines Terma’s institutional form, technology offerings, and strategic engagements. We assess how its capabilities align with European emerging technology priorities (AI, autonomous systems, space, electronic warfare, etc.) and NATO interoperability goals, while reducing dependencies on non-allied sources (notably Chinese systems). The goal is to reveal how Terma contributes to European defence sovereignty and where gaps remain in the larger industrial ecosystem.
