Beyond Aero is a French deep-tech start-up founded in 2020 by ISAE-Supaéro and École Polytechnique graduates. It is developing the first all-electric business jet powered by a hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion system[1][2]. The company’s flagship concept, the BYA-1 (branded “One”), is designed to carry 6–8 passengers for up to 800 nautical miles on gaseous hydrogen[3][4]. Backed by a mix of private venture capital and French government funding via the France 2030 initiative, Beyond Aero has already demonstrated a scale prototype (“Blériot”) in early 2024. This report will delve into Beyond Aero’s strategic and technological significance, focusing on its contributions to European strategic autonomy, interoperability, and supply chain resilience in the defense and dual-use technology context.
