Scanfiber Composites: European Lightweight Armor for Defense and Security
Scanfiber Composites A/S is a Danish manufacturer of ultralight ballistic protection systems for vehicles, vessels, aircraft and infrastructure. Founded in 1996 by engineer Erik B. Christensen, the company specializes in fiber-composite armor solutions combining ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene and aramid fibers (plus optional ceramic or steel inserts) to defeat projectiles and blasts[1][2]. In its own words, Scanfiber “protects people through innovation and quality,” deploying a large in‐house production facility (3,000 m² with a custom 4,000‑ton press) to produce tailored armor plates, mats and panels[3][4]. While lacking explicit media on recent contracts, Scanfiber has historically supplied NATO navies and armies (e.g. Danish corvettes) and exports ~90% of output to allies, especially the UK and Nordic countries[5][6]. Its portfolio includes vehicle spall liners, building protection panels and even flexible ballistic “bag” systems (per patent[7]). The company remains privately owned (sole shareholder) under CEO Erik Christensen[8][9], with a board chaired by H.C. Henningsen, ISO 9001/14001 certified and capable of meeting standard military procurement clearances for non-classified programs.
