Satlab A/S is a Danish space technology company specializing in software-defined radio (SDR) payloads for very small satellites. Founded around 2013 by alumni of Aalborg University’s CubeSat program, the firm focuses on compact radio transceivers and sensors for nano- and microsatellites[1][2]. Its portfolio includes S-band TM/TC transceivers and specialized receivers for maritime and aviation tracking (AIS, ADS-B) as well as IoT communications (LoRa)[1][3]. These capabilities address critical space and multi-domain communication needs while supporting European autonomy in satellite payload technology. The company has participated in national and European projects (e.g. Denmark’s Sternula-1/MARIOT satellite and an ESA ARTES connectivity study), signaling relevance to EU space strategy[4][5]. Satlab’s products have reached high readiness (TRL 9) and have even been integrated by allied partners – for example, US-based Sidus Space adopted Satlab’s second-generation AIS receiver in its LizzieSat constellation[6]. This analysis will examine Satlab’s corporate structure, technology portfolio, European program involvement, and strategic alignment with EU/NATO objectives, focusing on how its capabilities enhance European defense sovereignty and interoperability, as well as where gaps remain.
