Poland’s New 155mm Ammunition Plant: A Catalyst for Europe’s Defence Industrial Transformation
The construction of a new 155mm artillery shell plant in Krasnyk, Poland, marks a defining moment for Europe’s evolving defence-industrial landscape. Launched on 29 October 2025 by MESKO S.A., the country’s leading ammunition manufacturer and part of the state-owned Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), the facility expands the company’s production area by 18,000 square meters, effectively tripling its existing capacity. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz described the project as “an investment in security and in people,” underlining Warsaw’s determination to secure domestic supply and strengthen Europe’s collective defence posture. The initiative directly responds to the strategic reality created by Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine and to the chronic ammunition shortages that have plagued both NATO stockpiles and European supply chains since 2022.
