LuxQuanta: A European Quantum Cybersecurity Asset for Strategic Autonomy
LuxQuanta is a Barcelona-based quantum cybersecurity company pioneering next-generation encryption for the coming quantum era. Born as a spin-off of Spain’s ICFO research institute in 2021, the company has rapidly gained recognition for its breakthrough in Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology. LuxQuanta’s flagship product, NOVA LQ®, harnesses continuous-variable QKD (CV-QKD) to deliver quantum-safe encryption keys over ordinary fiber-optic networks. This novel approach enables governments, telecom operators, data centers and critical industries to safeguard communications against even the most advanced threats. In October 2025, LuxQuanta closed an €8 million Series A funding round to accelerate global deployment of its technology. The involvement of European venture capital, corporate investors like Telefónica, and the EU’s own EIC Fund underscores LuxQuanta’s strategic value for Europe’s digital sovereignty. With a mission to make quantum security accessible at scale, LuxQuanta is positioning itself at the forefront of Europe’s drive for technological autonomy. Its growth from an academic lab project into a deep-tech company leading EU-wide consortia highlights an emerging European champion in secure communications. As quantum computing advances raise the urgency of new cyber defenses, LuxQuanta’s rise offers a compelling example of how European innovation can deliver homegrown solutions to strategic challenges.
