Eelume (Norway) – Strategic-Technological Analysis Framework
Eelume AS is a Norwegian deep-tech company specializing in innovative autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) designed for challenging subsea environments. Founded in 2015 as a spin-off from Norway’s NTNU and research institute SINTEF[1][2], Eelume has developed a distinctive “snake-like” robotic submarine capable of great maneuverability and endurance. Its all-terrain AUVs can swim tetherless from a seabed docking station and navigate steep hillsides, complex infrastructure, and under-ice regions that are inaccessible to traditional remotely operated vehicles (ROVs)[3][4]. Eelume has demonstrated its technology’s readiness by selling units to industry leaders; for example, Norwegian oil giant Equinor has procured the Eelume S AUV after successful subsea trials[5][6]. The company’s systems combine high-end sonar and optical sensors (enabling ultra-high-resolution 3D photogrammetry and imaging) with sophisticated autonomy software[1][7].
