The emergence of DeepBlue Vision, an Italian spin-off specializing in AI-powered vision systems for autonomous UAVs, comes at a time when Europe is urgently seeking to secure its own drone and sensor technologies. In the wake of concerns about dependence on non-allied suppliers, especially Chinese manufacturers of drones and critical components[1][2], European defense planners have called for indigenous solutions in autonomous systems and advanced sensors. This analysis examines DeepBlue Vision’s potential role in that context. It reviews how the company’s capabilities align with EU priorities in military artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and sensor technology[3][4], and evaluates its contribution to NATO’s multi-domain interoperability and deterrence objectives[5][6]. Although public information about the company is limited, we assess its strategic value in substituting foreign technology, supporting interoperable platforms, and enhancing collective defense. By mapping DeepBlue Vision onto European strategic autonomy frameworks and funding initiatives, this report aims to gauge whether this deep-tech startup can advance Europe’s goal of innovation-driven defense sovereignty.
