European defense planners are increasingly relying on persistent satellite reconnaissance to maintain strategic awareness. Capella Space, a U.S. small-satellite company, offers 24/7 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery from a rapidly growing constellation[1]. Its automated tasking and worldwide service enable responsive monitoring anywhere on Earth, day or night, through clouds and adverse weather[1]. This analysis examines Capella Space’s capabilities and partnerships in light of Europe’s quest for technological sovereignty. By exploring Capella’s high-resolution SAR platforms, advanced data links, and ecosystem of analytics partners, we ask: can Capella’s offerings reinforce NATO interoperability and European autonomy, or do they risk sustaining new dependencies? The following report probes Capella’s technologies against EU and NATO priorities – from substituting non-allied systems to bolstering deterrence – to determine how this U.S. venture might fit into Europe’s defense and security architecture.
